Tirupati: State SC Commission member Challam Anand Prakash called on officials to hold a civil rights day every month in SC and ST settlements and explain their rights. The minutes of the program should be sent to the SC Commission office. As these programs are supposed to bring about a change, there is a need to organize them effectively, he said.
Anand Prakash addressed the media after a “Civil Rights Day” meeting held here on Monday in which he reviewed RDO V Kanaka Narasa Reddy, urban tahsildars and rural Venkata Ramana and Lokeswari and police officials.
The RDO said that at a time when the country is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, officials should strive to raise awareness among the SC, ST population in remote areas. He assured that tax officials and police will focus on this issue.
Earlier, the member of the SC Commission participated in the program for the 65th anniversary of the death of Dr BR Ambedkar held in the Senate Chamber of SV University and stressed the need to keep his ideology still alive. Government Whip and MP Koduru K Srinivasulu, SVU Vice Chancellor Professor K Raja Reddy, Rector, Professor V Srikanth Reddy and others took part in the program.
The speakers recalled Ambedkar’s contributions to the Indian Constitution through which many people from the oppressed sections reached several political positions. PA Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy worked with the true spirit of his ideology and put more emphasis on the education sector, they said. By providing the best facilities in public schools, 16 Lakh students have joined these schools from private schools, they added.
